The Eye Has to Travel

Last week, my mother hit the town to visit the Curzon cinema to see 'Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel'. It was a superb documentary, here's a little write up about it:

...painting an intimate portrait of a woman we all thought we knew. The film’s most compelling moments are not the high-drama of her career or the celebration of her imagination and singular looks, but rather those that reveal her personal history, vulnerabilities, steely determination and divine triumph.
With deference, Immordino Vreeland unflinchingly charts Mrs. Vreeland’s challenging childhood, fraught with parental strain, insecurities and academic failures, her self-preservation and ultimately her break through — reinventing herself as the dazzling, adventurous woman who would win the heart of ravishing bachelor Reed Vreeland. Wending its way through the Belle Époque in Paris, NYC’s Roaring ‘20s and London’s Swinging ‘60s, the film sparkles with game-changing moments in the history of fashion while still embracing weighty themes such as the evolution of women into roles of power and prominence.
Mrs. Vreeland’s own voice — that fabled mix of polished sophistication and street jargon — tells much of the story, coupled with insights and anecdotes from colleagues and friends like Andy Warhol, Diane Sawyer, Manolo Blahnik and Veruschka. First-time director Immordino Vreeland enlisted the talents of Bent-Jorgen Perlmutt and Frédéric Tcheng, the critically-acclaimed editors of  “Valentino: The Last Emperor.” Together they crafted hundreds of hours of archival footage, interviews, photography, graphics, animation and other visual and musical devices into a seamless collage that is already being touted as a living work of art.

We both loved it and talked about it for days! She is such an icon and I admire her greatly and hope to become like her when I am an eccentric old woman. To top off the wonderful evening, Manolo Blahnik himself was in the audience and talked a bit about his friend Vreeland in the Q&A session after they showed the film. Let's just say omFg. This was my facial expression for about 10 minutes after.

Twin Peaks/Liberal Arts

Recently, my father and I have been working our way through the amazing television series that is 'Twin Peaks'. For those who don't know what it is, your life must change. It was released in 1990, created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. There were 2 seasons and we worked through the first season within a week. It's highly addictive, and even though you're never really certain what is going on, that is the exact point and I am infatuated with it. And Agent Cooper, played by a young Kyle MacLachlan. HuBbA hUbBa. My newest icon is the character Audrey Horne, because she is, indeed, a bad bitch.

My Sunday evening was spent with my best buds, Honey and Lulu, and we went to see 'Liberal Arts'. Here's a lil' summary of the film, thanks to imdb...

When 30-something Jesse returns to his alma mater for a professor's retirement party, he falls for Zibby, a college student, and is faced with a powerful attraction that springs up between them.

We all thought the film was pretty wonderful, and to top it off there was a Q&A session after with Elizabeth Olsen! Let's just say I am kinda over the Olsen twins. My heart is on Lizzie O. She was so awesome and seemed so friendly and approachable. Also, her outfit was h.o.t.

That's all for now, but just want to mention I am having my fancy dress 16th birthday party this weekend, so if I get any killer photos I will post 'em.

P.S I am being Rapunzel.
Never been more excited.
I was born for this.

Early Birthday Goodies

SUMMER IS COMING TO AN END. Cue the hysterical crying. Tomorrow is my last day, but it has been a nice break and hopefully this GCSE year will be... bearable...?! Hey ho, I will do my best and that's all I can do.

It has been a little while since I posted I realize, so here's a quick update! Mostly it has all been pretty lax in the life of Erin, but I just wanted to give a shout out to Siobhan Lyons. She is an awesome stylist who is Little Duffy's bestie, and she kindly let me spend the day with her in her studio and I got to help her out with a couple jobs she had, including work for Topshop and Stella McCartney for Adidas. Despite Siobhan constantly apologizing for how boring it was (even thought I was having a hell of a time) she promised that she would let me know when she has more work and photoshoots etc. that I could help out with, so I'm happy bunny.

Onto today's topic of discussion - my 16th birthday! It's on the 3rd of October and this year my mother took me on an early birthday shopping trip and I am more than smitten with my new clothes! The first gift was a pair of Doc Marten boots from the Agyness Deyn collection. Yes, they were the cheaper substitute for the Balenciaga cut out boots I am having a long distance love affair with, but they are rad and I love them all the same. The second gift was the one and only Bart Simpson Jeremy Scott skirt that I have been eyeing up on tumblr for a few months now. Can't wait to wear them both, and when I do, there will most definitely be pictures! Here's some sneak peeks...

My long distance lovers...
Oh, Balenciaga, y u do this 2 me?!

That's all from me today, and I apologize in advance if I am not posting regularly as I will probably be busy stressing about school and what they will say about my nose piercing and homework, but I will try not to abandon the blog completely!
