Trick-or-Treat

Halloween is one of my favourite holidays of all time, but alas, no trick or treating on the agenda for tonight. Instead, I am dressed as Donnie Darko, watching Donnie Darko, and waiting for the trick or treaters. My dog, Milo, has been humiliated as he is every Halloween, and this year he is sporting a 'bitching' (excuse the slight pun) spider costume.

Donna Darko.

Spiderman.

So I know this is my Halloween post, but there is something that I need to blog about as I have bored my parents and friends with talk of what is on my mind beyond belief.
I need to talk about Kevin.
Last week my father and I went to see the recently released film adaptation of the book 'We Need To Talk About Kevin'. Tilda Swinton plays the mother, Eva Khatchadourian, whose 15 year old son goes on a high-school killing spree. It is a very artistically executed film and the cinematography was phenomenal. The acting was incredible, which leads me to the subject of my other latest obsession. His name is Ezra Miller. When I saw Donnie Darko, I thought that was love, but no, that was just a mild flirtation. Ezra is, of course, exquisite. He has such a grace, which is perfect for the role of Kevin. His stare is so sinister and captivating that it felt wrong to be so enticed by this murderous character, yet it also felt like that was the point. After seeing the film, I left the cinema speechless. Suddenly, I felt the urgent need to cry. No words could express how I felt, and I still struggle to articulate my exact response. As soon as I got home, I started to read the book, then finishing in a mere 3 days. That may not be little, but for me a book has to be outstanding for me to finish in a week, so maybe that tells you just how engrossed I am in the story. Only 2 days after seeing the film with my father I went again with my friend, Izzy, and yet again, I was stunned into silence and that same desire to cry. Since then, I have not been able to stop thinking about it. If it isn't obvious, this speech is my way of pleading for you to read the book and see the film.

Fairytale of New York City

Holla! Just got back from a lovely 3 day trip to New York City. I shopped, I walked, I danced, I shopped some more, I wined and dined (without the wine), I saw people, I laughed A LOT, and it was an immense trip, as always.

Yes, that is an Avatar dog. Only in New York.

Celestine in her awesome sparkly Wang trousers!

American Halloween beats all.

Me with my awesome friend, Claire. She makes me laugh like literally no one else. Apart from Celestine! Together they are pure magic. Trust me.

Duffy. Words can not describe this amazingness.

Freize Art Fair 2011

Finally, it is half term, and this year we get 2 weeks free from prison (ie school)! My holiday started well with a birthday party and a trip to the Freize Art Fair on Saturday. My favourites were the Chapman Brother's (obvs) and Penny Slinger, who you should check out. Yes, if you google her it does come up with some of the 'tantric' information about her, but I chose to ignore that, and focus on her cool doll's houses, which I recommend you do aswell. We saw our friend Lucy, who happened to be in this month's edition of Vogue USA (!!!) and we decided that we are going to New York on Friday for a long weekend! As you know, I am in love with New York and I am for suresies moving there when I am 18, so I couldn't be more excited. Here are some photos I took at Freize...

Yes, that is a rabbit in a jar...

The next time I post I will be in the Big Apple! Woohoo!

Autumnal Obsessions

Autumn is my favourite season. It has everything I could need in a season. There is my birthday, there is Halloween, and best of all, there is shopping for winter clothes. Another thing I like is that I can stay inside without seeming like a total recluse, as everyone else is inside too, trying to escape the wrath of the cold London weather. This is the time I hibernate and watch films and listen to music 24/7, which brings me to my latest loves and obsessions.

1. Midnight in Paris

This is Woody Allen's new film which I am smitten with. It is very charming and I am craving a trip to Paris even more than I am on a regular basis.

2. Dengue Fever

They are a band from California with a female Cambodian singer. Their music is in a fusion of the 2 places, therefore it is immense.

3. The Weeknd

My brother introduced me to the Canadian R&B singer, who goes by the name 'The Weeknd', in summer and I listened to his first album non stop. This is the second and I love it even more. Yes, this is another example of my bipolar taste in music. Cambodian to Rap within milliseconds. You know it, bra.

There is a mere 4 days left of school until my 2 week half term in which I will be going to New York, and hopefully Paris for a day or 2. Until I have anything else to blog, this is farewell.

15th Birthday

My birthday celebrations started on Saturday when I made a birthday cake for the sleepover I had with some friends that evening. We got up to all sorts of shenanigans. By the way, it was a rainbow cake. Enough said. (It was the bomb diggity).
*Insert obligatory photos of each slice, just to show it was actually just like the photos on the recipe website*

Yes, I am now a self proclaimed baking genius.

My birthday was on Monday and this was when it got serious. Fo' real. Now, some people are very patient and wait until they return from school to open their presents, but me? Couldn't have gotten down stairs to open them sooner! Obviously, I did that 'birthday must' where you open all the cards from your relatives first and pretend to read the card after the money falls out (I joke, I joke... kind of...) but then I got to the big guns. The presents from the parents. The first one I delicately unwrapped *cough, tore into, cough* was a Lulu Guinness clutch! Seriously, guys. You do not even know how long I have been eyeing these, hinting at my Mum to buy one so I can share it with her, staring at them as we walk past them in Selfridges, looking like a hungry dog. Finally, my hunger was satiated. The second present was another item I have been dreaming of. In those dreams, I am Audrey Hepburn, or any other sophisticated woman of the 1950s, sashaying in the streets of New York or Paris, oozing with charm and charisma, wearing some phenomenally fabulous full skirt (above the ankles, mind you) from the haute couture houses, and cat eye sunglasses. Conclusion - I am chic itself. This present was a Marie Mercié leopard print 'cat hat'. It sparked my imagination and I have decided to channel my inner Audrey Hepburn this A/W and become her protégé. This means hair in a bun, pearls, cuffed skinny jeans with penny loafers and pumps, big jumpers with leggings and, of course, the iconic black dress. Luckily, I already have my Miu Miu dress from my last birthday, so that with my new Marie Mercié hat I am all set. Okay, enough jibber jabber, here are some photos!

J'adore.

Then, Monday evening, I went to see 'The Playboy of the Western World' at the Old Vic Theatre with my parents. Honestly, I only wanted to see it because Robert Sheehan was in it, but I really enjoyed it! It's a fantastic play and I would definitely recommend it. I wore my new Lulu Guinness clutch, which is a given, with my new dress that my Mum's friend made, that I will be modeling soon (along with the rest of the collection, which is incredible), and my Louboutin trainers. After the play, we went home, I got into my PJs, and the 'rents and I had a Hummingbird Bakery cupcake each, just to make the day even better. You think that is where the awesomeness ends? Think again. My Mum ordered mine to have 'hey doll!' written on it in purple icing. Now that is how you know you' re a Kardashian lover.

All in all, my 15th birthday was sublime. Now, let's start planning my 16th...

Lana Del Ray

You may not have heard of her yet, but trust me, you will soon. (Hang on, you have now because you are reading this post... basics, she's going to be big). Her music was used at the Christopher Kane and Emilio de Merino runways, but that is not why I am loving her at the moment. Yes, her music is immense, and she is very beautiful, but my favourite part is the videos. They are sensational, eclectic and so original, not just her standing there, lip singing, and certainly not in skimpy clothes, dancing like a pole dancer like so many of the videos nowadays. (I'm aware I am an old soul this case, and thank God I am!). Enjoy.

P.S IT'S MY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW!
